How to write a Press Release

Press Releases are written on a wide variety of topics. In fact, almost anything that is considered noteworthy can become a press release. A press release is an official statement. This official statement can be distributed to newspapers, locally, regionally, and nationally, so they can be picked up and published. Press Releases are a great way to inform an audience about new store openings, events, products, or book releases. The following article outlines what information to include and how to write a press release for distribution.

A standard press release is short, not longer than one page, and typically running between 300 and 800 words, releases that are either too long or too short however may have more trouble getting indexed by search engines. The news source is the company or organization that is issuing the release.

Press releases must contain a valid phone number and e-mail address in the contact information including that of any agency, firm, or business is distributing on behalf of a client, then the source would be the client’s company or organization’s name. It should also be clear how that company or organization relates to the news announcement.

Guidelines on how to write a press release

All information in the press release must be correct and legally accurate. This includes important details such as a case number, court of record, complaint number, or other sufficient documentation. This is especially true for all press releases referencing legal action or criminal matters. Because of this fact, newspapers and other forms of printed news and magazines and their E publications are still one of the last forms of vetted news that exists today.

So Spell it our for me, what is everything that my Press Release needs to include?

A Killer headline that makes it a stand out

It is important to make sure your headline gives the intention of the prelease and also it attention-grabbing enough to garner the attention of the audience you are looking to attract.

The intro Facts First ( of course )

In the introduction of your press release it is important to include the who what, when where, and the why of the press release.

As this is a new release and not an advertisement, it should be written in an objective tone. It should also abstain from descriptions that overly hype a product or service. These kinds of descriptions, which are meant to create emphasis, greatly challenge the credibility of your news announcement.

What Goes in the body of the Press Release ?

Because of that reason, direct address (i.e., “you,” “I,” “we,” etc.) is used only within a quotation. Given by someone designated as a spokesperson from a company or organization. Likewise, exclamation points and grand product or service claims should also never be used when writing a news release.
